Scalp Micropigmentation Treatment & Sun Exposure

At Ink 2 Scalp, we often get asked: Once I have SMP do I have to hide from the sun forever? The simple answer is no, however, it is a bit more complicated than that. Extreme sun exposure is never good for anyone's skin, especially the human skin. When it comes to Scalp Micropigmentation and sun exposure, it is important to keep yourself protected and safe. At Ink 2 Scalp, we specialize in SMP treatments, today we are discussing the importance of protecting yourself following your treatment and how exactly you should go about doing so.

Why Should I Protect My Scalp Micropigmentation?

When it comes to Scalp Micropigmentation treatment, exposure to the sun can result in quicker fading. Although this isn't a serious complication, it can result in more follow-up appointments being required, ultimately making your treatment much more expensive in the long-run. We recommend investing in 60 plus sunscreen, moisturizers and hats that protect the scalp when you are in the sun. Keeping your scalp hydrated and shielded from the harmful rays of the sun should be a top priority following your treatment and there are a number of amazing products available.

How Long Does Scalp Micropigmentation Last?

Typically scalp micropigmentation with last for approximately 4-6 years before it shows heightened signs of fading, however, those that spend a lot of time in the sun without protecting themselves, those that swim in high chlorinated pools or those who have high oil skin levels, may experience fading in a 2-4 year time frame. During your initial treatments, your technician will be able to determine how frequent touch-up sessions might be needed based upon your overall look, skin texture, health history and the shade of SMP ink that is selected for you.

What Products Should I Use?

We recommend investing in sunscreen, hats and moisturizers so that you can protect your scalp in any situation. There may be instances where you are in the sun without expecting to be, having a hat available can help protect your scalp without the need to buy new products.
