What is SMP?
Scalp micropigmentation (also known as SMP) is a form of hair loss treatment. Scalp micropigmentation utilizes tiny microneedles and specialized, organic ink to create the illusion of hair follicles, looking similar to a freshly shaved head. These faux hair follicles are matched with the rest of your hair, giving the illusion of a fuller head of hair or even a different hair line.
How is SMP Performed?
During your Whitby scalp micropigmentation treatment, these tiny microneedles and specialized ink are used to perform a technique known as “pointillism” on the scalp of the patient. Each tiny dot is placed in a strategic way to give the most ideal results and most realistic, blended, quality final look.
Is SMP Painful?
At Ink2Scalp, our patients report minor levels of discomfort during treatment. Each time a microneedle is inserted into the scalp to create a “hair follicle” it is penetrating the surface layer of the skin, this can cause minor pain. On a scale from 1-10 most patients report approximately a 3 and share that it feels "more annoying", then it is painful. The minor discomfort is slight in comparison to a hair transplant or a typical tattoo. Following treatment, it is recommended to take special care of your scalp and the entire area, to avoid any complications or infections. Your practitioner at Ink2scalp Studios will review all of these details so you feel safe and informed.
